When Alana and I started Because Jewish almost three years ago, we hoped to find an audience of seekers - people searching to experience the best of what Judaism could be in new settings with compelling musical collaborations and a fervent dedication to finding the spirit in each moment that we shared together.
It worked. Over these past years, we have seen programs, ideas, rituals, and creative interpretations grow and develop and go on to be shared in other religious communities as well.
So it is tremendously bittersweet to let you know that Congregation Beth Sholom in San Francisco has hired me to serve as their Senior Rabbi, beginning July 1st. Alana and I are so honored to bring our spirit, our voices and our ability to connect people with our tradition to the community and to the great city of San Francisco.
This is an awesome opportunity for our family, and we are so grateful to all of you who have supported us and joined us in the work that we have done together as a community. And we are grateful to God who has brought us to this point and paved the way for new possibilities.
We will continue to present all of our scheduled events through the end of June, and we look forward to seeing you at one or more of them. Our executive director, Wendi Weinman, will be staying on until then to produce the events and to discuss the future of this community with the volunteers – whose work and dedication have been invaluable. Some of our programs have developed a committed and strong following and there are a few key volunteers who have agreed to take the time to figure out how select programs can continue to thrive. Feel free to share any of your thoughts and ideas at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you all for being part of this with us - for your presence and heart and for helping us reach this moment.
With love and gratitude,
Rabbi Dan & Alana Ain
